Insulation
What's involved
Most Minnesota ice dams start in the attic. Heat escapes from the house into an under-insulated or leaky attic, warms the underside of the roof deck, and melts the snow above it. The melt runs down to the cold eave and refreezes. The same lost heat shows up on your heating bill.
Every job starts with a free attic inspection, usually 30 to 45 minutes. We measure insulation depth, look for air leaks around can lights, plumbing stacks, and the attic hatch, and check the soffit-to-ridge ventilation path. Gaps matter as much as depth: heated air slips right past insulation through an unsealed hole. You get a written report, and if everything checks out, we say so.
If the attic needs work, the same crew does it: insulation upgrades, new attic insulation, and air sealing. We do not remove old insulation. While we are up there we also look at the roof from the inside, at moisture staining and past ice dam damage, so you hear about it early.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Do you install attic insulation in Crosby?
Yes. Silver Loon Roofing is based in Crosby and adds attic insulation and seals attic air leaks on homes and cabins across the Cuyuna Lakes and Brainerd Lakes area. It starts with a free attic inspection.
Is the attic inspection really free?
Yes. No cost and no obligation to book anything afterward. We check insulation depth, air sealing, ventilation and ice dam risk, usually in 30 to 45 minutes, and tell you what we found before we leave.
Can insulation stop ice dams?
It is most of the fix. Ice dams form when attic heat warms the roof deck and melts snow that refreezes at the cold eave. A well-insulated, well-sealed attic keeps the deck cold, so far less melt reaches the eave.
Do you remove old insulation?
No. We add or upgrade attic insulation and seal the air leaks that keep it from working. If an attic needs old insulation removed first, we tell you so and point you to someone who does that work.
How much does attic insulation cost?
It depends on the attic size, how much insulation is there now, and how much air sealing it needs. There is no honest single number without looking. The free inspection gives you a written estimate.
