Edina Synthetic Slate Reroof

This job is in the Twin Cities metro, well outside Silver Loon's Brainerd Lakes area — real work from the same crew that installs our roofs.

The material is synthetic slate: a composite tile shaped and textured to read like natural slate, installed in offset courses the same way real slate goes down, but at a fraction of the weight. A two-story home like this one can carry synthetic slate without the structural work real slate would need. The color here is a dark blue-gray, laid tight against a brick chimney with new flashing at the saddle.

The photos show the crew mid-install on a summer afternoon — roofers setting tile near the ridge, cut pieces staged in a supply box nearby. One shot looks straight down a finished valley, showing how the tile courses run tight against the cut line with no gaps. Silver Loon does not currently sell synthetic slate.
