Maple Grove Colonial — Storm Replacement

Maple Grove sits in the hail corridor that runs northwest out of the Twin Cities along the I-94 / I-494 arc. When a severe line pushed through Hennepin County in July, three homes on this cul-de-sac off Brockton Lane took direct hits. The colonial's roof was a 2010 install — only 15 years old, but the July hailstones were running marble to golf ball size and didn't leave much undamaged.

The homeowners called us two days after the storm, before they had contacted their insurer. That order of operations matters: we walked the roof with them first, documented every impact bruise with chalk and photography, and gave them a full written scope before the adjuster ever came out. When the adjuster arrived, we had a complete damage map ready. The claim was approved in eight days.

The original roof was a standard three-tab shingle at an 8/12 pitch — manageable but not forgiving when you have three dormers creating valleys that channel runoff directly onto the lower courses. The replacement went in as GAF Timberline HDZ in charcoal, which reads similar to the original color and keeps the home's profile in line with the neighborhood. We ran ice-and-water shield through every valley and all six dormer saddles — the three-tab original had builder-grade felt in the valleys, which had already started delaminating before the hail event.

Job ran two days. The crew finished a day ahead of a second storm front that pushed through on day three. New ridge vent, new step flashing at all dormers, new drip edge. The GAF system carries a 50-year lifetime limited warranty on the shingles and a System Plus warranty on the full installation. The homeowners had receipts for the insurance file the same week the job closed.
